Ghanaian Language Classes Continue Building Cultural Connection Across the Diaspora

GHPAC’s fourth cohort of Ghanaian language classes continued this fall with learners participating in Asante Twi Beginner, Asante Twi Intermediate, Akuapem Twi, Fante and Ga courses.

The virtual program connects learners across geographic boundaries with instructors and fellow students committed to strengthening their ability to communicate in Ghanaian languages.

For some participants, the classes provide an opportunity to reconnect with a language spoken in childhood. For others, they represent a first structured opportunity to learn the language of parents, grandparents or extended family.

The program reflects GHPAC’s broader belief that diaspora institution-building must include cultural continuity.

Language carries history, worldview and belonging. Preserving it across generations strengthens the connection between Ghana and a diaspora that is becoming increasingly established abroad.

Cohort 4 builds on GHPAC’s growing language-learning community and the organization’s continued commitment to ensuring Ghanaian heritage remains accessible to future generations.
